2017 Beauty Resolutions

Happy New Year Everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful New Year’s Eve and are looking forward to a great 2017. I didn’t do anything too crazy last night — instead I put the kids down at a reasonable hour and then took a long hot bath and double masked (Boscia Luminizing Black Mask and then a My Scheming sheet mask)! Sounds like an ideal New Year’s Eve to me!

I would love to hear about what your resolutions are for the New Year, whether beauty-related or not. Personally, my skincare goals dovetail with my blog goals, so I’ll share both of them here.

1. Do ME Better

I think social media does this to all of us — we get caught up in what others are buying or doing, and we feel down because we’re not doing the same thing (FOMO much?). I often get tempted to buy products I don’t need because I see people using them on Instagram, when I know they probably won’t work for me. On the blogging side, it’s easy to feel that I’m not growing my blog quickly enough or that other people have better pictures and I’ll NEVER get there.

My resolution for the New Year is to take those FOMO moments, and instead of feeling down about myself, to springboard them into opportunities to grow and improve. Sure maybe I don’t have the most Instagram followers or the nicest photos or the most products — but I have to work at my own pace (given I’m also raising two small humans) and measure my improvement against myself instead of others.

2. Buy Fewer, But More Targeted Items

I think this comes as a natural progression of having done this skincare junkie thing for a while. I don’t feel the need to haul or hoard quite as much any more. Instead, I want to buy ONLY products that I feel will have a spot in my routine and that will work for my skin. OR products that are really different and unique compared to things I’ve already tried.

I promised myself (and my husband) not to buy anything more until my birthday in February. I have a huge backlog of products to test and review, so I’m going to spend January working on those instead of buying more.

3. Take Better Pictures

This is more of a blog goal, but I know that photos make such a big difference in your (readers’) experience on the blog. I want to work more on composing beautiful pictures that showcase products in a helpful way. At the same time, I want to refine my own photography style which is unique to me. I LOVE photos that I see of super feminine, flowery setups with crystals and rose gold and etc… But I have to be honest; that’s not really my aesthetic. So in 2017 I want to explore more WHAT that aesthetic is, and how to bring it to life in my product photos.

I think those are my big three beauty/blog resolutions for 2017. I’m sure I could make a longer list but these three seem attainable and good goals to spend my January working towards. I would love to hear about your beauty resolutions! Tell me about them in the comments!
